A Tale of Four Southern Ladies in the Big Apple
(Part 1)
The main reason for going to New York was to do the National Stationery Show. And do a show we did. We were a little overwhelmed at the mere size of the whole event.
An important part of the show is to get people to actually come into your booth. This proved to be a challenge. So we dressed Jill up and put cards on her and sent her walking the aisles. She was our walking billboard. Ok, so that didn't really happen, but we did think about it. And oh the pictures I would have brought back. In all honesty though our booth was fairly busy for our first year. We were very pleased with the way it turned out.
We met some wonderful new friends. There were two guys down the aisle from us who were displaying their greeting cards. They were from Manchester in England. They were very nice and I liked visiting with them mainly just to hear them talk. That and the fact that they were very funny. I'm sure we sounded very intelligent saying things like "Y'all are just soo funny" and "What's it like over there in England?". Just imagine that with a very thick southern accent. It's got S-M-A-R-T written all over it.
The people right across from us were from Sarasota Florida. They were super nice. It's a good thing because when setting up, they kept brining things out of their box that we didn't even think of. They had an iron and tape and ribbon. I don't know if I've told you about Jill before, but she meets someone and thinks that they are immediately her BFF. She had no problem asking them to borrow their iron and tape and ribbon. I think they thought they were her BFFs also. They had no problem sharing. We loved them!
We had several people come into our booth throughout the show. I think we sold to 14 new stores. We are very excited about the opportunity to begin working with some new people.
Things are very different here in the south. I noticed that each day that we were there. We are slower paced and very interested in what's going on in others lives! I will say that I loved visiting the Big Apple and making new friends. But I love being back in Tennessee. There really is no place like home!
